Rocco's Story: A New Beginning "I mean, how can you put that face and euthanize that? He's just a real sweetheart," Cricket said with a warm smile. Rocco is a 15-year-old cat who was destined for the humane society. Given his age, the chances of him being adopted were slim. Recognizing his gentle nature and big fuzzy cuddle buddy potential, Cricket decided to bring him home. "So I adopted Rocco, and he's been with me a year now. And he's got an unusual thing that he does instead of meows – he honks. So when I come up, he'll go 'honk, honk'." A Soldier's Cat: Finding a New Home "The cat was being taken care of by the parents of a person in the military who got deployed for an extra four years, and they were no longer able to care for the cat," Cricket explained. "So they called me instead of it going off to be disposed of. I kept it because it had a heart condition, and it would have been put down at the other shelters. I don't do that." This cat, like many others Cricket has taken in, had a slim chance of survival due to its medical condition. Cricket's compassionate heart and dedication provided a new lease on life. "She's been with me now about a year, and she's doing just fine; hangs out on my desk, comes and sees me sometimes in the bedroom, so she's doing well. Didn't cure her heart problem, but I had the heart to give her the rest of her life. How could anybody possibly want to euthanize her?"
